Company
History
When he moved from Noiraigue to Neuchâtel to become a porter a century ago, Fritz Wittwer could not have imagined that he would create a transport company that currently has more than 30 employees.
Based in rue des Sablons, in Neuchâtel, he acquired the company’s first removals vehicle, the "Franz", in 1905. Fritz Wittwer had attached a padded crate to the axle of this vehicle, with its wooden-spoked wheels and solid tyres. This entrepreneur became a trail-blazer in this field throughout the Neuchâtel region.
The Fritz Wittwer (later Fritz Wittwer junior) removal company broadened its activities in the second half of the 20th century: removals, goods transportation and coach transport.
Between 1940 and 1970, it was managed by Albert Wittwer, son of Fritz. At that time, it included a travel department based at rue Saint-Honoré 2 in Neuchâtel and a large coach department. The coaches travelled all over not only Switzerland but also the rest of Europe.
The company remained in situ until 1961, when it moved across the railway line to Crêt-Taconnet. Thirty years later, in 1991, it took possession of its current premises in the Les Perveuils industrial zone in Marin.
The company also remains family-owned. It was managed by his grandson, Claude Wittwer, for many years, and now his sons Stéphane and Jérôme Wittwer have taken up the baton.
